Karaoke As A Form Of Escape

Posted by Music Radio | Music Radio | Saturday 2 August 2008 9:30 pm

People in the Philippines are definitely diligent. Working overtime comes not as a surprise, but as part of the working habit. Contrary to the misconstrued notion that Filipinos are a bunch of Juan Tamad, Filipinos are actually workaholics whether they live in the City or at some distant province or even at a foreign land. Notice the diaspora of Overseas Filipino Workers all over the world. Foreigners tend to hire Filipinos because they are known for their faithfulness, diligence, and integrity. However, in spite of Filipino’s enthusiastic working routine, Filipinos are still famous for being a happy person. Studies actually show that Filipinos are in the top list of the happiest people in the world. Filipinos have developed a skill to find pleasure in the midst of tumult.

In a place where people work from dawn till dusk, pleasure is much needed. People’s frenzy lives yearn for a better side of the story. Everyday, work becomes too tedious, exhausting and unbelievable. The need for pleasure becomes a need for air to breathe. In the eyes of a worn out person, the workplace becomes a jail where he or she is slowly stripped of life and essence. For this reason, he or she seeks to find an alternative world where he or she can really breathe; can really live; and can really be free. Oftentimes, Filipinos see Karaoke Bars as the paradise of pleasure. In this context, singing, although out of tune, becomes a form of their escape. There are two ways of how Filipinos use Karaoke as an exodus from their stressful lives. On one hand, they often choose to feel the passion in the song which purgates their emotions. On the other hand, they let singing sever the self from verity.

A typical Filipino loves to put himself/herself in the shoe of the other. This is why Filipinos weep over the predicaments of the characters in their favorite soap opera or abhor the antagonist of the novel that they are reading. Filipinos put too much emotion in singing. They sing the lyrics of a sad song as if they were the ones who were hurt. Whenever they sing happy or love songs, you can actually feel the rush of their adrenaline. According to Plato, a person undergoes purgation after weeping over a sad story of any form of literature. His/her soul is cleansed. Afterwards, he/she feels more contented with his/her life, happy that he/she lives a better life than the overly sensationalized stories of various media.

Similarly, Karaoke puts Filipinos in jubilant state. Upon entering the bar, a Filipino leaves everything at the doorstep including his business worries, financial problems and relationship concerns. As soon as they find a good position, they play a good song, grab the microphone and belt out the lyrics with all their might forgetting the harshness of their respective lives. Karaoke sends people to a temporary euphoric condition where life becomes nothing, but bliss. But this bliss is transient for after the singing, the Filipino goes back to reality where he faces his problem, now reinvigorated.

How To Buy A Classical Guitar Tips And Hints To Help You Make A Good Purchase

Posted by Music Radio | Music Radio | Saturday 2 August 2008 5:31 pm

Purchasing a classical guitar can be a difficult task particularly if you are not yet an accomplished player. Here are some tips and hints on finding a good quality classical guitar whether it is in the hundred dollar range or the thousand dollar range.

If you are have ever gone into a well stocked guitar shop you have no doubt been confused by the selection of guitars. There are literally hundreds of shapes, sizes brands and types of guitars. And the price can range from a hundred dollars to several thousand. .If you are a beginner, judging the sound quality can be difficult to do because your ear is not yet highly trained. Here are some tips to help you make a good choice.

When in a guitar shop and looking at the guitars you should always ask a sales person to help you. This way you can take guitars down and play them. If you cannot play very well you should ask the sales clerk to play for you so you can get a feel for the sound of the different guitars. If the sales clerk doesnt play you should ask if there is someone working in the shop that does play. As a last resort you should even ask other customers in the store. Not listening to the different guitars is like shopping for a car but never test driving any of them. Guitars have very different feels and tones and you should listen to a lot of them to get a sense of what you like. Dont be bashful in this respect. Guitarists are usually a very gregarious bunch and a guitarist will almost always jump at the chance to play for someone else. If you dont yet play well and you cant find somebody to play for you I recommend you not purchase a guitar. You should come back another time when someone is available to play or you can bring a friend who knows how to play.

Check the size and shape of the guitar

Classical Guitars, of course, come in different sizes and shapes and you should sit with a wide variety of them to get a feeling for what is comfortable to you. Your body shape has an effect on this. If you are over six feet tall the smaller guitars might not be comfortable for you and the fret board may be uncomfortable for your hands. So even if you cant play music you should always hold and sit with the guitars to get a sense of how the different ones feel.

Check the mechanics and playability of the guitar

Here are several things you should do when considering the purchase of a classical guitar.

1. Play every note on every string all the way up and down. Listen for frets that dont play properly. They will give a rattling sound and if this occurs on any fret at all you should put the guitar aside and try another one. This is a sign of inferior quality. Every string should play cleanly on every single fret.

2. Check the action of the strings against the frets in terms of how much pressure is needed to play notes and chords. You should play bar chords all the way down the frets to insure good pressure. If it is too hard to press the strings in order to make a clear chord this could be a sign of an inferior guitar.

3. Play harmonics on the strings. This is an excellent test of the quality of the guitar. Playing harmonics is the technique of plucking the note with your right hand and only lightly touching the string with your left hand. Test the harmonics of all the strings on the 5th, 7th, 12th and 19th frets. If you do not know how to play harmonic notes ask the sales clerk to help you.

4. Examine and test the tuning pegs. Do they look clean and sharp? Wind and unwind them while watching and feeling for smooth turning motion.

5. Visually examine the whole guitar. Look it over very carefully from front to back and top to bottom. Are there any small cracks? Are the frets firmly installed into the fret board? Are there any cracks or glue exposed around the bridge?

6. Tap on the front of the guitar (The sound board) in a variety of different spots. Does it have a rich echoing sound or are there spots where it sounds dead and limp? The internal structure of the classical guitar is very important for the sound and important for the longevity of it. Dull thud sounds could be an indicator of an inferior instrument.

7. Examine the details. Look at the purfling around the edge. This is the decorated pattern that goes around the full body where the soundboard or face meets the sides of the guitar. Is it accurately laid in? If this has variations and inconsistencies it is a good sign that the guitar is of inferior quality.

8. Dont hesitate to take a good look inside the guitar sound hole. You will see wooden braces in there. Do they look straight, accurate and well placed? If you see sloppy globs of dried glue around these braces it could be an indicator of inferior craftsmanship.

9. Remember that there are three distinct areas you must consider when purchasing a classical guitar: The Look, The Feel, and the Sound. If you keep all three of these things in mind and carefully examine the guitar in relation to these you will be able to choose an instrument that will bring you a lifetime of trouble free playing enjoyment.

A Classical Guitar is a purchase that can give you a lifetime of enjoyment and you should consider the purchase carefully. Even if you dont plan on playing every day you should buy an instrument that is of good quality so it will maintain its sound quality for a lifetime. And to do this you dont need to spend thousands of dollars you just need to know how to identify a well made guitar.

Tips For Recording Music With Your Electric Piano

Posted by Music Radio | Music Radio | Saturday 2 August 2008 1:30 pm

Electric pianos, also called digital pianos are become increasing popular, due to their many benefits. Quality digital pianos now how a sound and feel very close to an acoustic piano. In fact, some digital pianos can rival the best grand pianos in sound quality.

One of the best benefits of digital pianos is their digital output of sound, so it’s very easy to record music using just your digital piano and your computer.

Most keyboards and electric pianos have a one quarter inch stereo output. Most computers have a one eighth inch stereo input, so you’ll need an adapter. You can get the necessary adapter at Radio Shack or a similar store.

Once you have your electric piano plugged into the microphone port on your computer, you’ll need software to record with. Audacity is about as good as you can get. It’s free, and supports multiple tracks, plus has many useful effects.

Once you install Audacity, you’ll need to adjust your keyboard volume. You can adjust the volume via the Audacity interface or on your keyboard.

To record, just click the record button and start playing…then click stop when you are done. To record multiple tracks, just click record again and play along with the track you already recorded.

If you add acoustic tracks, such as guitar, vocals, drums, etc to your recording, you should use the Noise removal effect on Audacity. This tool is very helpful in removing static and noise from your recordings. It usually won’t be necessary for your electric piano, though, since all the recording is digital.

Using your electric piano and Audacity, you can easily create recordings with a full band. If you need more voices for your keyboard, you can get midi boxes or software to add 100′s of extra voices everything from drums to flutes.

Pearl Jam A Moment Frozen

Posted by Music Radio | Music Radio | Friday 1 August 2008 9:30 pm

Rock and roll posters run the gamut of utterly ridiculous, to vaudevillian hilarity, to visually arresting in their sheer and utter genius. While Pearl Jam Posters can be said to fall into this literary sphere, they are also an intriguingly blend of infinite energy and desperately prophetic soul adventuring. The sheer energy, and edgy grunge of PJ, is quite often reflected in the visually stunning eye artistry of every album cover.

Favourite Jam

One of my favorite Pearl Jam posters, has to be the one of their live concert posters. The camera view is from behind the band facing out towards the audience. In the shot, we see an empty microphone and a light mist rising from the audience. Not far from the microphone, is a spent Eddie Vedder leaning backwards at a gravity defying impossible angle. If not for another band member, Eddie would most surely collapse backwards onto the stage. A stage slick with the dewy remnants of the mist is also stylized here. But, if we allow our imaginations to flex a little, that wet slick, could be the sweat from a band and vocalist that has given it’s all in a obviously exhilarating performance. Dripping onto the stage with a sheer veracity, with nothing left of their physical essence. Everything has been paid to the audience. This image captures the essence of what all great concert posters should. The deafening all embracing sound of a great band cranking out great sounds, and now on the verge of consensual collapse. Emotionlly, physically, and spiritually drained.

Pearl Jam Moment

This imagining, is not the type that could be conceived from an artists brush in isolation. It needed the soul of the band, the rapture of the audience, the hum of the music and the audacity of the lyrics. Pure raw passion and emotion. This poster, like few I have seen, makes me wish that I had been there. To feel what the audience feels, to emote what the band emotes, to be Eddie Veder, or simply to be caught in the moment. One of rocks many defining moments. It’s a Pearl Jam poster that creates a sense of longing, and a wondering for what it must have felt like. It’s artistry, it’s music, it’s emotion, it’s everything it means to be human. It’s not just Pearl Jam, it’s a fleeting insight, that captures a moment, captures an audience, speaks to generations, and leaves us wanting more. Isn’t that what art and music are all about?

Wedding Guitar Music And Wedding Songs

Posted by Music Radio | Music Radio | Friday 1 August 2008 9:30 am

Weddings are very important occasions. This is the day when the bride will walk down the aisle (with soft music playing on the background), while the groom waits at the altar, and the entire guests attention are focused on the two of you. Nothing can be more romantic.

But wait, what if you take off the music. Would it still be as romantic? No bride would want to walk down any aisle without any music, you can bet on that. The wedding would be lifeless. In fact, the wedding will not probably pull off.

A successful wedding ceremony is usually accompanied by a well-chosen wedding music. Wedding music creates a certain atmosphere, and sets the mood. When planning for your big wedding day, careful attention should be given to the wedding music during the ceremony, and at the reception.

Having a lot of factors to consider, choosing the right wedding music is a difficult task. Live guitar bands nowadays are more preferred than recorded wedding music. However, if youre having a church wedding, you would have to stick to the churchs guidelines, and churches have choirs that sing hymns during weddings. But if your wedding ceremony is to be held outdoors, it is best if you can book guitar bands.

Deciding for the wedding music should be determined by personal taste, and with consideration to the atmosphere, duration, and guests. It is best if you can have different music for the reception and the processional. Some couples like to stick to the traditional but there are also liberal minded couples who want their own style.

Wedding guitar bands can make your weddings more entertaining and livelier. You should find the right guitar band for that very special occasion. The quality of musicianship is a very important consideration. If you already have prospective bands, you can listen to their recordings, or you can watch some of their live performances.

Aside from that, you should also check the bands repertoire and experience. You can ask for testimonials of couples who hired the services of live bands. There are many people that you can ask including your friends, colleagues, and relatives.

Once you find the right guitar band, make sure that you discuss with them all the things that you want for the wedding. You should be able to get the best out of the bands musical skills if you discuss with them the music flow you want.

Weddings are full of promises, love, and life. Here is a list of the top ten wedding songs often used:

1.Good Thing Going by Carolyn Arends
2.Youre Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher by Audio Adrenaline
3.Youre Love Broke Through by Rebecca St. James
4.Love of My Life by Jim Brickman
5.Answered Prayer by Bob Carlisle and Lisa Bevill
6.Waltz for Jennifer by FFH
7.Ill Give by Smalltown Poets
8.Youve Got Me by Steven Curtis Chapman
9.Household of Faith by Steve Green
10.For You by Michael W. Smith

&quotWho Else Wants To Get Screwed When Signing A Recording Or Songwriting Deal?!?!&quot

Youve got your recording (or songwriting) contract in hand and everythings coming up roses, right? You get your check, finally, but its not quite what you expected. If you sign not knowing whats owed you then you might be shorted some well-deserved income. So make sure that anything you sign contains a statement to the following areas (preferably in your favor):

Performing Rights this means you get a chunk of the change when your songs are played over the radio, television, Internet and at some public venues like concerts and such. And who keeps tabs on this? Check out ASCAP-http://www.ascap.com/index.html, SESAC http://www.sesac.com/home.asp and BMI http://www.bmi.com.

Mechanical Rights This is the most commonly known. It includes anything physical such as tapes, CDs, etc. The Harry Fox Agency is nearly 80 years old and for artists with 2500 or less recordings they can learn more at http://www.songfile.com/ regarding small licensing.

Print Rights Exactly that anything in print like lyrics or sheet music.

Foreign Rights Again, anything that deals with foreign publishing and licensing.

Synchronization Rights Ever heard a Garth Brooks or Rolling Stone song in a movie or television show? Thats synchronization and it can mean big bucks although some artists overlook this very important right when signing.

If you fail to have some or all of these areas covered when signing a contract it can mean the loss of big money for you. If you can afford it hire only the best entertainment attorney to handle your contracts. A good attorney can be expensive, especially if he has to do all the legwork but you can save time and money by looking into products such as the 101 Music Business Contracts software at http://www.MusicContracts101.com . This easy to use, contracts creation software features over 100, professionally drafted, music business contracts and agreements. As with any contract you sign be it a house loan or a recording contract its best to have an attorney look the documents over before doing a final signing. However, a great money saver is arming yourself with knowledge, like 101 Music Business Contracts, before you ever set foot in a law firm.
