There are a number of factors to consider when looking to purchase your first electric guitar. This report will be divided into four sections each covering a specific topic that will help you to choose your guitar. This text is intended as a guide only and in no way claims to be definitive. It does not promote or endorse any particular brand of instrument over another. The information contained is the result of nearly thirty years of playing, repairing and selling guitars.

Section I ? Price Range

The first issue to address and perhaps the most important (unfortunately) is the price that you are willing to spend on an instrument. Nowadays, unlike twenty or thirty years ago, you are able to purchase a very good quality guitar for a low price. It is a good idea to establish a minimum and a maximum that you would like to spend. Say for instance you choose a model that starts at $125.00 and goes up to $250.00 for the model with the most options or features (better bridge, tuners, etc.?). If your maximum price is only $200.00, you might opt for the in-between model that is still a great guitar that has everything you need! However, make sure that you shop around for your best deal. The same instrument could vary in price from one store to the next; so do your homework you won?t regret it!So when choosing your first electric guitar, only you can decide how much you want to spend. The point is to realize that there is usually more than one model of the same line of a particular guitar at different prices. It can get rather confusing, but that is what this guide is for; so you have an idea of what to look for!

Section II ? Visual Aspects

It is important to consider the appearance of the instrument you are seeking. This section of course varies with each individual person. However, it is important that you are happy with the way your guitar looks. After all, you?re buying your first guitar and you will probably keep it for a number of years. Do you like solid colors such as blue, red, green, or white? What about clear finishes or sunburst? Is the body style appealing to you? This is all personal choice right? Well, yes and no. If you have the money obviously you can pick whatever you want, but keep in mind that within just about any particular brand of guitar, solid colors generally cost less than clear finishes and sunbursts. So visual aspects are largely a matter of taste, but you might be limited again by your budget.

Section III ? Sound and Playability

When you pick up a guitar in the store and begin to play, it should feel comfortable. The neck should fit your hand size and the body should rest against you comfortably while standing up as well as sitting down. The sound must be pleasing to your ears or else you won?t be happy with the instrument. Ask to try out guitars with different pickup configurations. Pickups are the bars under the strings near the bridge that ?pickup? the string vibrations. Pickup configurations are simply the arrangement of the pickups that will produce different sound combinations when switched. The guitar should also fit the style of music that you intend to play. The salesperson at the music store can be helpful for this, as they should have a pretty good idea of which guitars are used for what. This might seem self-explanatory but so many times I?ve seen people (including myself) settle for something less or different than what they had in mind. Only to fall victim to the persuasive salesperson who is thinking about his commission rather than your satisfaction or happiness. So when choosing, keep in mind your personal needs alone, not what someone else tells you or tries to push you into.

Section IV ? The Bottom Line

What is the bottom line? Your personal satisfaction! You have to like or even love the instrument that you purchase, even if it is an inexpensive beginner?s model. Of course there is a lot more that could be said about this subject but the idea is to give you a guide that will help you in your purchase, not to write a long commentary! So have fun and don?t rush. You won?t be satisfied if you?re hasty so take your time and you will find your first electric guitar with as little stress as possible.

Sliding is another legato technique used by all guitarist. They are very simple to learn, just pick a note or notes and slide your finger slides to another note(s).

This is presented in most TAB format as a ?/? slide up and ?s? slide down. First let?s do a simple slide up. Use your 3rd finger on the A string 7th fret pick the note and slid up to the 9th fret smoothly and without stopping. Don?t pick the note on the 9th fret! The Tab is below

E—————

B—————

G—————

D—————

A–7/–9——–

E—————

Now for a slide down: on the G string put your 3rd finger on the 5th fret pluck the note and then slide down to the third fret. Made sure to do it smoothly and don?t pluck the note once you arrive at the 3rd fret.

E—————

B—————

G–5s—3——-

D—————

A—————

E—————

If you combine the slide up and slid down you get cool legato sliding effect. Try this combo using the b string and your 3rd fret. Pluck the note at the 5th fret slide to the 7th fret then slide back to the 5th fret. Pluck again and slide up to the 7th fret, hold the note a bit and then slide up to the 11th fret. Then pluck at the 11th and slid down to the 9th. Cool!

E————————————-

B–5/-7s-5/—9s—7/–11s–9———

G————————————-

D————————————-

A————————————-

E————————————-

Try sliding a chord, a power chord for example. In this tab form a C5 chord and slide up to the D5 Chord. This is done a lot in modern rock songs.

E————

B————

G————

D—5/–7—-

A—3/–5—-

E————

Sometimes you may want to pick a note and just slide it down until it fades out. In this example just pluck the note on the 9th fret of the A string and then slide down with no end spot. This is done to added color and a fade sound to your playing. You can also reverse this and do a slide up.

E————

B————

G————

D————

A—-9s——

E————

Now is the best part. Practice doing all kinds of slides you don?t need any book or rules, just make things up that sound cool to you. Practice combining all the legato techniques along with muting and you?ll be ready to start rocking in no time.

So, you want to know how to buy a new guitar. Whether you are just learning to play the guitar or you’ve been playing for some time, choosing to buy a new guitar can be one of the most exciting experiences.

You will soon learn that people have their own opinions about the type of new guitar to buy. You will need to consider what is important to you. In addition, learning how to buy a new guitar is similar to buying a new pair of shoes. They are better once they have been used a bit.

In guitar terms, they need to have a good setup.

There are essentially three types of guitars on the market: electric, acoustic, and classical. You can also find acoustic guitars that have pickups. These are properly called acoustic-electric guitars.

If you’re are just learning to play the guitar you may be interested in purchasing a brand new guitar instead of a used one. You may think that there is much more trouble associated with purchasing a used guitar.

You shouldn’t have to worry about the general condition, but there are some tips for how to buy a new guitar that can save you a headache and point you in the right direction.

Getting Your Money’s Worth

One aspect of new guitars that you will learn quickly—they’re not cheap. As with anything you buy, the highest price doesn’t necessarily correspond to the best. When you are considering how to buy a new guitar, the best deal that you want to secure is one where you get a quality guitar with the lowest prices possible. Quality in terms of the guitar relate to its construction and tone.

When you look at the construction, notice the wood that is used. Inspect the entire guitar and look for peeling or chipping. Also look closely to notice the shape of the guitars. Guitars are typically kept in storage areas.

If a guitar spends a significant amount of time in such an area, it is very possible that the wood may become affected so that the instrument loses its shape. Now that you are learning how to buy a new guitar, you will be able to tell the difference in a new guitar that is worth its price tag and one that is not.

Checking the Action

If there is one aspect of guitars that separate them from each other, it’s tone. Another tip for how to buy a new guitar is to refrain from judging a guitar simply by its looks alone. You need to take it down from the shelf and listen to its tone. If you are just learning to play, you don’t have to worry that you don’t know enough to test out the tone. You can tell if a guitar has good tone by simply strumming a few strings on it. Action is an important thing to check as well.

Action refers to the amount of space between the strings and the fretboard.

When you play a note, you have to press down on the strings so that they touch the fretboard. If there is too much space between the string and the fretboard, the action is considered high. If there is very little space between the two, the action is considered low. Either extreme can affect your guitar playing. You want to aim for an action that is somewhere in the middle.

The tips presented here are only a few to show you how to buy a new guitar. The more time you spend talking to other guitar enthusiasts you will learn more about new guitars.

If you are looking for cheap electric guitars there is a lot of choice out there. You can buy a cheap electric guitar from as little as ?70 and there are a number of brands making cheap guitars.

Don?t spend under ?90 on a guitar
If you are buying your first electric guitar, I wouldn?t recommend spending under ?90. Most of these guitars are built with very cheap materials to bring the production costs down, hence the retail price. The guitar?s sound will be compromised with this lower quality and the finish will also look a bit rough. You will usually find that the guitar strings are the cheapest ones you can buy, they will sound twangy.

The other downside of these cheap electric guitars due to the low build quality is the durability. You will be lucky if you can play it for more than 1 year and not have a problem with the guitar parts. You will end up with a cheap electric guitar (cheap meaning the quality this time and not the price).

Spend ?90-?150 on a guitar
My advice is to spend between ?90 and ?150 on your first electric guitar. You will get some reasonable quality at the lower end and good quality at the upper end.

Electric guitar brands to look out for
Here is a list of guitar brands that offer beginner electric guitars within the above price range: Stagg, Crafter, Vintage, Encore, Cruiser by Crafter, Gould, Squier, Yamaha, Dean, Peavey, Epiphone, Carlsbro and Ibanez.

The Epiphone, Vintage and Yamaha are the most popular electric guitars from the above list, the Stagg offers the best value for money in my opinion.

Should I Buy My Guitar in a Music Shop or Online?
It is really up to you, but my advice would be to buy one of the recommended guitar brands above. You can do this easily online, and you won?t get a shop salesman trying to push what?s best for them rather than what?s best for you.

There are many types of guitars in the different music stores which are available for every one of all ages. If a person is interested in learning to play the guitar, it is important that he purchase his own guitar. The type of guitar depends upon what type of music he wants to play.

He may choose an electric guitar if he thinks rock music is awesome or he may buy an ordinary guitar if he wants to play acoustic. The ordinary may cost less than the electric guitar which also needs requires an amplifier.

If he prefers an electric guitar, here are some tips on how to choose the right one:

1.A person should be sure about his chosen music as choosing an electric guitar means that he will be in aligned with rock music. He may start small ? just playing for his own enjoyment, but once he improves with his music he may want his own band that sings and creates their own rock music.

2.It may be tempting to want an expensive guitar that have names suck as Gibson, Les Paul, or the Fender Stratocaster. These guitar brands are very expensive: it is advisable to invest in a cheaper model especially you are still learning to play. More expensive equipment may be purchased later if he is interested in pursuing rock music.

3.He can look for brands like Onyx, Legend, or Orion in the meantime. These are less expensive than the brands mentioned above. As a beginner, one of these electric guitar brands may satisfy a person?s craving for rock music. When the time comes that he is a master of the instrument, then that would be the time to upgrade the equipment.

4.A person who does not have enough money to buy one of the cheaper brands even though he is really interested may be able to find a second hand guitar as an option. After all, he is just learning to play the guitar!

5.A buyer needs to keep in mind that acquiring an electric guitar also requires buying an amplifier. He can try to find stores that provide a wholesale package of the guitar with the amplifier.

It is recommended to assess your needs before buying a guitar. A person must know first what type of music he wants to play then buy an instrument to fill that need. The important thing is that he is happy with the guitar he purchased.

If you are reading this article, chances are you are interested in learning to play the guitar. well, the most important thing that you need in learning to play guitar is the guitar itself, of course.

The first thing you should decide on is what guitar you want to learn to play on is ultimately the kind of guitar you will want to buy.

Their are two major types of guitars, they are the electric guitar and the acoustic guitar. There are pro’s and con’s to both types of guitars.

An acoustic guitar (or box guitar) is harder to learn on, but the only extra thing you need to get in order to play is a pick.

An electric guitar (or rock-n-roll guitar) is much easier to learn on and you will see significant improvement in a very short amount of time. But there are a few extra things that you on order to play, and that will more than likely be more expensive than an acoustic guitar. The first thing you need is an amp (or amplifier), if you play an electric guitar without an amp, you won’t be able to hear the guitar very well. Prices of amps have a very wide range of prices.

From a small, cheap amp at around $50 or so to a large expensive amp at well over $2,000. There will be allot of knobs on the amp, which the knobs are used to manipulate the sound of the guitar through the amp. The knobs can give you a nice clean sound to a dirty rock-n-roll sound. whatever you want your guitar to sound like, chances are, you will be able to duplicate it on your amp, with a little practice and experimentation, of course.

Then you will need a guitar cable. A guitar cable is a wire that runs from the guitar to your amp. Lastly, you will need a guitar pick.

How do I find the right guitar for me? First, I would ask around school or work and find someone who can play guitar well and be-friend him then ask him if he would go with you to music stores and pawn shops to find the best guitar for you.

While hanging out with your new friend, ask him if the two of you could hang out together and jam. Maybe give you some pointers and show you some tricks, too. If the two of you are hitting it off pretty well, you’ve already got one thing in common, I don’t see any reason for him to say no. Chances are, he was looking for someone who shares the same interests and enthusiasm that he does, all along.

Well that’s it. I hope you found this article both informative and entertaining. May GOD bless you always, and always.

So, the guitarist in your life already has a guitar (or a few guitars) that they are happy with. You want to get them something special, but can not think of anything. They really seem to have everything they need already. Well, why not give them guitar lessons for a Christmas gift?

Great for Any Level

Guitar lessons are a great gift for the guitar player in your life because you can take them no matter which level you are at. There is so much to learn about the instrument, there will always be room for improvement. You purchase lessons for to help them graduate to the next level or to help them learn a new genre. For example, if the guitarist already knows rock guitar, they may want to learn jazz guitar. Or, they can take rock guitar lessons that will help get them to the next level of playing.

Finding a Teacher

There are a few places you can look to find a teacher. If there is a college in your area with a music program, there may be a guitar student who is looking for extra cash. The rates the students charge are usually less expensive. Check on the bulletin boards or in the college newspaper. If you cant find anything, consider posting your own sign stating that you are looking for a guitar teacher.

You can also check local music stores, the classifieds, and the boards at local clubs. You may want to ask around, too. Sometimes it is best to talk to people to get their recommendations and critiques of particular teachers. You also may want to ask the person who will receive your gift if they know of anyone. Maybe they want to take lessons with a particular person but cant afford it.

In general, you will want to find a teacher who will fit the needs of the guitarist. Do not just go with the least expensive teacher. They may not have the skills to teach certain players.

Pay up Front

Instead of giving the guitar player in your life cash to go towards the lessons, you can contact the teacher and pay for the lessons up front, or have them give you a gift certificate. The problem with giving cash is that they may find other reasons to spend it and forget about the lessons.

Guitar Lessons as a Gift

Guitar lessons make a great gift. They help encourage and give feedback that the guitarist is making progress. This is also a good gift to accompany a guitar pack or starter kit.

Gibson guitars have been around forever. It’s funny, but although Gibson has produced some of the most amazing guitars in history, perhaps the company’s largest contribution to music has been through their advancements in pickup technology. Gibson’s first electric guitar the ES-150 was produced in 1936, and is still considered one of the best sounding electric jazz guitars in the world.

In 1946 Gibson introduced the P-90 single coil pickup, which was eventually used on the first Les Paul model in 1952. The Les Paul was Gibson’s first solid body electric guitar. In 1957 Gibson introduced the legendary Humbucker pickup on the Les Paul model, and an instant classic was born. The P-90 and the Humbucker quickly became the pickups of choice for Gibson’s expanding line of solid body electric guitars.

1961 marked the introduction of one of Gibson’s most successful models ever, the double cutaway SG. This was followed by the Firebird, and Flying V models, each a classic in its own right. In addition to electrics, Gibson produces some of the finest acoustic guitars available.

Gibson’s commitment to excellence, and support of top musicians is demonstrated most deeply through its well known Custom Shop. The Custom Shop produces specialty instruments for artists, and discerning musicians. In addition, many well known historic classics have been faithfully reproduced by the Gibson Custom Shop, allowing a whole new generation of guitarists to experience Gibson’s hallmark guitars.

Perhaps no other guitar maker has touched the hearts of so many players and collectors as Fender. By producing excellent guitars at reasonable prices, Fender has been the instrument of choice for many guitarists throughout the world. Both the famous and not so famous have relied on Fender guitars to define their signature sounds.

The Fender company was founded by Leo Fender, and produced its first solid body electric guitar in 1951. This guitar was called the Telecaster, and was soon followed by the Precision Bass, and the legendary Stratocaster in 1954. Over the years many changes would take place at Fender which had a great impact on the types and quality of instruments they produced.

The first mile-stone year for Fender came in 1965. During this year, Fender was bought by corporate giant CBS. Quality began to decline during CBS’s reign, and although Fender still remained popular among players, CBS lacked the commitment and understanding necessary to satisfy the needs of serious musicians. As a result, the guitars produced during the Pre-CBS era would become prized collectors items demanding large sums of money in the vintage guitar market.

In 1985 Fender enjoyed another mile-stone year as a group of employees purchased the company back from CBS. For the first time in 20 years Fender was in the hands of musicians and artisans committed to producing world class guitars. A new manufacturing facility was built in Corona California to handle the production of USA made guitars. In 1987 the Fender Custom Shop was established, reaffirming the company’s dedication to producing top quality guitars, and catering to the needs of top musicians.

From 1985 to the present day, Fender has been steadily expanding its operations within the United States and abroad. The company now produces a vast array of musical products from strings to mixing boards. In spight of such massive growth, Fender’s commitment to the production of quality guitars remains very high. Fender remains one of the few companies that can successfully provide quality products to both the budget conscious and price no object musicians.
